It's hard to breath... I feel like I'm not getting a full breath of air?!

Question: I went to see the doctor on Friday in urgent care, because since a week ago, I started getting shortness of breath and slight chest pains. It started when I was laying down in my bed trying to sleep.. and suddenly I got this scared, anxious feeling and shortness of breath - so I got up and walked around and it was really dizzy! After a few minutes, I noticed some tingling in my arms and fingers, and my stomach too. It lasted for 3 days! I started getting small, sharp chest pains that went down to my left arm and the pain seemed to rotate from left chest to right chest - sometimes I felt no pain, but just tightness. So I went to see the doctor, and she said it might just be heartburn and gave me some antacids. Well, I've had heartburn throughout my life (since I was a kid) and I'm pretty used to it. I know this isn't heartburn.. I suspect it may be panic attacks.. or something else. But it can't be anything serious right? If the doctor didn't notice anything else wrong.

I was experiencing the exact thing you are describing, minus the pains down my arm. I went to Urgent Care as well and they ran every test known to man! I finally went to an internal medicine doctor. He decided it was allergy/sinus problems. My nasal passages and sinuses were so swollen that I wasn't getting enough air. Something in the air was also triggering an allergic reaction in my lungs. The dizziness was because I wasn't getting enough oxygen and also from gasping too much (hyperventalating). When I would have these attacks, I would then freak out and it would turn into a panic attack on top of everything else! Anyway, the doctor presribed some Singulair which is an allergy medicine that also controls asthma. It helped a lot.

Also, when this happens try closing your mouth and slowly breathing all the way in through your nose. It seems to help. Good luck!

Sounds like a panic attack to me.
Good thing you got the Dr to check you out, but don't ignore panic attacks either.
When you do feel the shortness of breath, try breathing in and out of a small brown paper bag, it will help you.
Maybe if this keeps up you should explain to your DR your fears of this being anxiety and you could talk to someone who can help you, a counseler or phsyciatrist.

Feel better soon.

sounds like ur thinking too much..i had the same thing...i would feel really weird..sometimes just relax and dont over think...but if u feel like it could be panic attacks go see a doc..its not life threatening but once u find out exactly wats wrong..u will be more at ease..just relax though..just tell urself ur not gonna die and and reellaxxx
