Am I going deaf??!

Question: A couple days ago, I felt like I had water in my ear, so I tilted my head... but I didn't have water in my ear.

Last night, I couldn't sleep... at 5:30 A.M., I COMPLETELY lost my hearing in my left ear. It only lasted about 3 minutes though.

Today, my ear's felt tingly and congested. I feel like my hearing is 50% in my left ear.

I don't feel any pain at all...

What could this be?

If its your outer ear, get an ear wax removal kit from the pharmacy. If its your inner ear, your eustachian tube, which connects your ear to your throat is blocked and fluid has build up due to the blockage. The blockage and fluid suppress movement of the eardrum. Hearing returns to normal when the blokage clears. Doctors call this otis media.

Sometimes you can get this to open up by taking 12-hour sudafed (the original kind that is kept behind the counter at the pharmacy. If there is no pain, then there might not be an infection, so you can try the sudafed and see if it clears up in a few days. If the ear starts hurting or stays blocked for 3 days, then it might be a good to make an appointment with the doc.

Don't panic! I used to get the same thing when I was really young. You probably just have a really large block up of earwax. Just take a Q-Tip, put it in some cold water and clean your ear out.
