How long should a child have a fever before you really worry?!

Question: My 7 year old niece has had a fever between 102.7 and 103.7 for 3 days. I took her to urgent care and they said it was viral and give her childrens tylenol which I had already been doing. The fever is not coming down and I am getting concerned. Three days seems like such a long time to be in distress. Am I jumping the gun?

3 days is pushing too long for a child that young to have a fever that high. Try a warm/cool bath, popsicles and oranges, keep her well hydrated. Make sure you are giving her enough tylenol, and as often as you can. Take her temperature a half hour to an hour after giving her tylenol every time, to make sure it comes down at least a little, if not, you should see the doctor again tomorrow. Most important is rest and hydration. If the fever stays this high for another 2 days, take her on another visit to the doctor, but remember she will be fine. Good luck, hope she feels better.

Worry now...that is to high for too long...try an alcohol bath(put alcohol on cloth and rub down the limbs or a warm /cool bath)..how much tylenol are you giving? Is it every four hours and does the temp come down when you give it? Make sure the child is hydrated(drinking enough fluid)...give her whatever she will drink and ice pops/liquid jello etc...

NO MORE THAN 3 DAYS.
