The harm was done before she was born. Smoking during pregnancy goes directly to the baby. Smoking around the baby now is just as if she would be smoking herself. If she wants her daughter to have any chance at a normal life she needs to stop smoking around her. Even stop smoking in the home as toxins seep into the walls. Your granddaughter didnt choose to smoke!

It might be something to ask DOCS about. You can ask anonymously without giving the mothers name if this is considered risky behaviour. They might arrange someone to talk to her and explain as an outsider what is acceptable behaviour and hygiene for her baby.

no.

That is just wrong! that should be classified as child abuse because smoking is terrible for an adult imagine what a small baby feels like trying to breath in that mess. I am a mother of a two year old and I smoke, but I ALWAYS go outside away from her. That is just selfish of a mother to put her child through that.

Its very very dangerous to smoke around a baby... This could cause her problems in later life and if the baby has ashma then it is very dangerous.. Maybe you should tell her mum she is being irresponsible and that if you don't do something about her smoking.. You will..

no really but she might get lung cancer wen she grows up

As the mother she has the right to decide if you even get to see your grandaughter, so you might want to try and play nice instead of posting everything you feel she is doing wrong.
And by the way, I believe almost every parent in here has put their fingers in their childs mouth- to feel the new teeth

it could make her extremely ill, and presumably lead to a life threatening illness, just as it does in humans, and will aggravate her asthma. smoking around babies has also been linked to Sydden Infant Death Syndrome (cot death). in this day and age, with all the information thats about, it is awful to smoke around children, and shows pure selfiishness on the part of her mother.

EDIT: TO ABOVE POST- putting hands in babies mouth is fine, but not if theyre covered in cigarette smoke.
it has been shown that children can be affected by smoke from an adults clothes, hands etc for some time after smoking, even if you dont actually smoke around them, and also from the room being smoked in, walls, furnishings, air, etc even if they are not present when smoking.

no. Did you know that an infant living in a house that uses a wood fireplace or woodstove is more dangerous to the respiratory health then living with a smoker? http://www.burningissues.org
