Best CPAP machine?!
Question: Hello, I need a CPAP machine and since the insurance pay for it I would like suggestions on which machine I should choose.
Which one is the best one, less noisy and more comfortable.

I do this for a living....and let me tell you your options..after asking a few questions...
are you planning to get your machine off the internet? It will be cheaper, but it could be dangerous. First off, you don't know where these machine are coming from. I know of people who got thier machines from the internet, only to find out that it is a used machine....and one from a smoker. [unless you are a smoker, they STINK!]. Second, there is not a vendor who will service those machines if they know that you got it from the internet. And you will have to do all your busness from the internet. So, if your machine needs repair, it may take 6 weeks to get it repaired...and you are without a machine for that long....Is that appealing?
If you choose to go with a reputable vendor, [Lincare, Apria, Rotech], make sure they have a Respiratory Therapist to guide you into your machine.
Types of machine- The top manufacturer are Respironics or ResMed. Of the two, imho, Respironics have the better software and machines. The best machines out there is the A-flex machine, followed by the Auto, and then the Cpap with C-Flex. The sense/monitoring algorythms of the machine are 2nd to none on the market. And the first two have the ablity to go auto adjusting, but you don't need that if you have had a sleep lab diagnose your problem. You might need it, later on down the road, if your weight changes...and if your vendor is a sharp vendor. He knows, that he can optimise everyone's time by downloading a card and using the US postal service .
If your vendor is willing to get you the A-flex Cpap machine, and willing to spend time with you explaining your machine, USE THEM....they are a precious resource that you need to have in your arsenal....
There are just too many to choose from. DeVilbiss, Respironic, Puritan-Bennett, etc are all good brands. My advice is to look at a web site maybe like cpapplus.com and check out the specification of each one. I would recommend that you get one that is self adjusting "automatic". It is a little expensive but it will adjust the pressure you need by itself and it will keep a record of the pressure fluctuations during your sleep. It would probably be wise to also check whether these brands have service centers in your area. I personally use a DeVilbiss CPAP unit coupled with a Puritan-Bennett nasal mask and I have no complaints with it. My mother also uses the same.
