Question: he has had breathing treatments and inhaler and cough surp

Answers: he has had breathing treatments and inhaler and cough surp

I would make a doctors appointment. Chronic coughing (not related to a cold/illness) in asthmatics is a sign (just like wheezing is) that the asthma is not well controlled. Your son should be on some type of prevenative medication (usually streriod based) and not depend on an albuterol or "rescue" inhaler/neb. treatment to completely manage his disease. Albuterol inhalers or treatments or to treat sudden wheezing, shortness of breath etc. The steriods aim to prevent what causes the symptoms in the first place. I've had asthma all my life and when managed correctly your son should be able to live a normal and physically active life. Good luck, hope it helps!

if it is a cough suppressant stop using it...it can cause the mucus to compact and worsen the coughing.

If the treatments are not lasting at least 2 hrs then you need to contact his pedi pulmo as he may need an oral steroid burst.

close the door and make your bathroom hot and steamy and and bring him in and see if that works

Apparently something is triggering the episodes. I have allergic asthma. Dust, pollen, mold and cat hair triggers mine. What ever is the trigger, it has to be removed! How much dust is in his room? Does he have stuffed animals? Just like with a pillow, they collect dust and dust mites! How long since everything on his bed was cleaned? And the mattress vacuumed?
I've had to replace the air-filter in the central heat system more often and with a better quality to keep the dust down in my apartment. I can really tell when I haven't cleaned under my bed for a while. I wheeze and cough til I'm breathless and the inhalers don't help. I have to remove the triggers.

I hope this helps!

Both my boys had infant asthma.. when they had it really bad (usually at night). I would wrap them up warmly and take them outside into the damp cold night air. I would sit outside with them for about 15/20 minutes. I cant remember who told me to do this - maybe I read it somewhere,...but it works.

First, do you alot of dust in your house or any pets. Second, does anyone smoke. If any of these are present then try removing it. Im not a doctor but I am really trying to help. If it dosent help then go to the emergency room. its my best bet. Maybe he has cole stuck in his chest. I really really really really tried to help becuse I was once sick myself and no one knew what i had and your probrably panicing.I hope this really helps.

Run a hot bath for him and run a humidifier in the bathroom. All that stuffy steam will at least calm his asthma for a while until you can do somthing about it. Have you tried a nebulizer? I haven't had to use mine in awhile, but it usually helped a little bit. Good luck.
