Possible Heart Problem?!

Question: Hi, So I went to the doctor today because over the last week I've felt a little light-headed and dizzy and I've had some shortness of breath and fatigue/weakness. My blood pressure, complete blood count, and thyroid were all fine. She also ordered an EKG and a chest xray. She said that there was a calcification on my chest xray but it was probably fine and she hasn't gotten the EKG results yet. I'm kind of worried about my heart now because of the urgency with which my doctor saw me and the number of tests I had done. I haven't really ever been that unhealthy before although I do have a family history of heart disease, but at seventeen? Do any of you have any experience with these symptoms and with the calcification on my chest x-ray?

The calcification she mentioned on your chest xray is probably a granuloma, which is caused by a fungus called histoplasmosis, and if you've been healthy otherwise it has no clinical significance for you. If your EKG was abnormal the doctor would have called you by now. I'm not sure exactly why you are having these symptoms, and it does need to be evaluated further, but you are at very, very low risk of having a cardiac reason for your symptoms. But you did need to see the evaluation through to its completetion. I have evaluated many folks your age with similiar symptoms and have yet found any significant heart or lung abnormality. Many times the cause is not exactly identified. I hope you are feeling better soon. And in the mean time take comfort in the fact that your are young and all your test have come back normal thus far. Try not to be to anxious. I'm sure you'll be fine.

yes it could be in lungs and stuff the calcification. it could be around the chest lungs or could be around the heart and that isnt' good but they can give you meds to get rid of that. i am sure you will be ok but they need to find out what type of meds you need to take and that is what is going on. they are doing the right things take care.

u just have to stop eating McDonald's "kay

I have had problems with anemia in the past and that is how I would feel when my iron got too low.

we need other factors, ie. weight, exercise, eating habits to really say anything. these factors also weigh in on your issue. 17 is way to young to be having these issues and hopefully it is only stress or panic attacks.

hi mate,,, look all your tests so far have come out good!
at your age i doubt u have a problem,,, those symptoms could b from lack of food,, lack of sleep, stress, a virus, and other non worrisome problems,,
dont stress, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx good luck

First off, DON'T WORRY. It's paradoxical, but worrying about a heart problem only makes it worse- stress raises blood pressure. If you're young and in relatively good health you're probably fine.

BUT- even if there is something wrong it may be no biggie.

I used to faint way more than anyone should and have an abnormal heart beat. It turned out that I had something called Brugada's syndrome which my cousins and uncle also have. It's annoying, but as an otherwise OK young woman my odds of dying from all sorts of other things or way higher. I know it's scary (I've been there too), but I promise, once you know what you have (or don't have) and what you can do about it , you feel better. You will be okay. Just know that you rock and don't worry about the unknowns.

I don't know the calcification on your chest but as you mentioned about your family history of heart disease. So you have to be careful of your situation. Some people got the heart disease as young as one year old.Take an exercise walk and keep on eye to the food you eat.Hope you will fine and God bless.
