Does these blood sugar readings mean I could have diabetes?!

Question: I'm overweight and my mom has Type 2 diabetes....so tonight I tested my blood sugar using a friend's meter.

The first time was about an hour after I had eaten something and was 156.

We tested it again about an hour later and it was 141.

So it was going down.... I know it can be higher after you eat, but how long is the post-meal time range? Are these numbers cause for concern?

thanks...

You should talk to a Dr. just to be sure.......one thing you can do that you haven't is to take a fasting blood sugar reading.
Do this when you first awake or as soon as you can after awakening. Your reading should be approx 110 or lower.
Good Luck.

those reading can be a cause for concern but you would need to have those reading constantly. Let your Dr. know what is going on

If you like you can ask your doctor to do a random and fasting blood glucose.
Just random sugars alone mean nothing, you have to keep a record of the time and when you eat.
It is much easier to just let the doctor draw your blood and test rather than sicking your finger needlessness for now anyway.
Avoid sugars, make your sodas diet
A craving for sweets and always being thirsty are signs of diabetes
Just because your mom has it doesn't mean you will if you make lifestyle changes now

Good Luck to you

Please read the post on this blog, called Are you diabetic?

It gives the numbers for diagnosis, and also which tests to ask for, and also mentions the accuracy of home testing meters.

You cannot diagnos diabetes yourself. Your numbers are higher than average, and you may have diabetes or prediabetes, but the meter could be off.
