White things on and in the back of my throat?!
Question: My throat has been sore for about 2 weeks now and it's a bit red and swollen on the sides. I looked in my mouth the other day and noticed only two white dots back there. I managed to poke one with a Q-tip and it actually fell off! It took it and it smelled horrible! What was this? Can anyone help me out? I went to the doc and he tested me for Strep but it came back negative and he said I did not have a throat infection. So why did I have such a sore throat for such a long time and why did I get these white things on my throat?

omg!!!!! i know how u feel ... i had the exact thing a few months ago.... it may be tonsilitis... thats what i had.... since ur throat is swollen, ur tonsils burst/ruptured and is now filles /w/ food particles... even though its gone, i still get the white things every once in a while... just make sure u keep getting them(the white things) out b/c if u leave them in, they get really big, and the pop out on theyre own at random times...DO NOT SWALLOW THEM!!!!! theyre gross... hope i helped

If you are sexually active, it could be a form of herpes. My throat was soo sore that I couldn't swallow. They checked me for strep, mono and then realized that the guy I was dating had herpes and didn't know it. I had gotten it in my throat from oral sex with him. It would come back everytime I gave him oral sex. When I didn't, it would go away. To say the least I am no longer with him and have had multiple tests since but do not have the herpes virus.
It could be Mono or tonsilitis or a number of other things. I would go back to the doctor again. You should not have a sore throat for that long!
