Are my number so bad that I need to worry?!

Question: Hi. I'm type 2 diabetes without medications. It's all diet controlled. My numbers have been pretty good (low 100's and below). BUT I went a little liccorice crazy. I checked my sugar about half hour after eating them and it was 167. I NEVER get number like that so I started freaking out. I checked 5 minutes later on another finger and it was 127. Check another finger for good measure and it was 133. AND just now again 126. Can it be that the sugar made me spike? Would this happen so quickly? Should I worry?

Check this out. Every time you eat something, your sugar levels go up. This goes for you and for anyone else. What i mean is even people that are NOT diabetics will experience this. Up to here, all is normal. Now, two hours after you finish eating, non diabetics sugar levels will go back to normal. It is not the same for diabetics.2, 3, 4 hours after they finish eating their sugar level still will be above normal levels. So according to what you said, your sugar levels are normal, even tho what counts is not that test but the one you do every 3 months and it is called A1C. That will tell you what your sugar level is for the last 3 months and is more accurate.
I am diabetic since 1988 and i know what i am talking about. Just do a little walking every day if you can for 30 minutes, and if can not, at least 3 times a week and that will help.

This is a medical question and it's answer may affect your physical well being. This question should be put to your doctor or medical specialist not to some unknown person here.

I pray that you get better.

luz b is correct. your sugars are pretty normal. everyones blood sugar (even non diabetics) spike when eating sugar. your numbers are not bad at all. i'm type 1 diabetic and i wish i could get my numbers to stay that consistent. you have nothing to worry about.

I'm a type 2 in insulin and with diet and exercise you can keep you sugars in the "new range" 80-126.
testing should be done 2hrs after eating to get an accurate reading. if you test yourself before breakfast,2hrs after breakfast, before lunch, 2hrs after lunch, before dinner and 2hrs after you an get an accurate average as to where your sugars are running.

30 mins of vigorous exercise 2 or three times a week is good for the sugars and your heart. also look into talking with a nutritionist to help with foods that level your sugars and won't spike them.
Good luck
