Patients who get tonsillitis repeatedly, or who have tonsillitis that doesn't get better after taking antibiotics, are often recommended to have a tonsillectomy. It depends on how old you are, how often you get the infection(s), and if you have serious complications from the infection like an abscess. The recovery from surgery is like having a really really bad sore throat but the pain should go away after 3-5 days. After the surgery it's very rare to ever get another tonsil infection. You may still get sore throats from viral infections, but you won't get strep throat.

Amoxicillin is a good antibiotic for most tonsil infections, and a one-week course is a normal amount of time to take it. Patients with more serious infections may need it for up to 3 weeks.

Getting the appedix removed (called an "appendectomy") is done when there is a serious, life-threatening infection in the appendix or if the appendix has burst. The pain is different from a tonsillectomy so it's hard to compare. People are usually back to their normal activities in a few days but you shouldn't do anything strenuous for at least a week or two.

I can't comment on recovery from those operations (other than to say recovery from a tonsillectomy will definitely hurt much more than your average sore throat!), but to have your tonsils out generally you have to have a repeated history of chronic tonsillitis. Having it once won't mean you have to have them out - plus, they will not do the operation while you have the infection. The antibiotics should sort it out nicely.

i had myn out bout 7 months ago now,, it hurt 4 a cupple days afta but it wasnt a big deal i woz totally freakin out b4 tho coz it woz my first surgury but it really does onli feel like having tonsillitis,, turst me it is soo much betta widout them lol i kept gettin sick every 2 weeks n missed out on a month of skwl all up so yer it just feels like a sore throat

jess

edit;
antibiotics DONT work that well,, they only worked once on me anyways.. hope u feel beta totally no how you feel.

tonsillitis is a medical condition which requires antibiotics and anti-inflammatory agents or pain relieving and fever controlling preparations. only when it recurs and affects a persons activities, or it impedes the Eustachian canal and affects hearing or leads to complications need it be removed.
appendicitis is a surgical condition and once it is diagnosed it is better removed unless some thing else complicates it, or it is associated with some other problem. appendicitis is infection in part of the intestine and if it recurs and bursts it will be very dangerous.
and regarding the pain, everything is painful!!

Now a days tonsillectomy is getting out dated as perhaps people started realizing the importance of having tonsils as a barrier for infections. But Acute appendix is a life saving surgical emergency and you cannot compare it with tonsillectomy.

tonsils

the appendix definately ......they actually go into your abdomen and that hurts for like a week to ten days VERY BADLY, the tonsils only hurt real bad for like 2 days and then you start getting better and they never hurt as much as the appendectomy.....after the appendectomy i felt like a train ran over me...
