Janey, I use to smoke. In fact I did for nearly 20 years. I tried to quit unsuccessful 2 times. But I guess for me the 3rd time was a charm. I quit cold turkey! It was the ONLY way. There is no weaning off of the stuff or thinking a few days later, I will have just one. I even quit one time for 3 months and found myself back on them. Just because I wanted to! Well, then you never quit. I finally made up my mind and it was a time in my life that I was very busy and my life was disrupted. I was getting ready for a move, had a yard sale to do and packed the van 22 times, this to close out and that and so I just made myself not have the time. When I did think I wanted a cigarette, I told myself no, I had already quit! The first 2 weeks are the hardest, but you can get through it, just don't give in! My husband has not made that committment to quit. Amazingly I was able to quit even though he still does! Another motivator for me was the fact that I thought about what I would do with the money that I had saved. It all helped and I even prayed to God when I felt weak. You need to keep yourself busy, perhaps start walking, join a gym, chew gum or put a carrot or celery stick in your mouth. Replace that bad vice! Even after 3 years, I had a craving for a cigarette and gave myself that pep talk. It didn't take much convincing when the years go by and you can resist temptation. I have now been smoke free for 17 years and my husband STILL smokes. Unfortunately as a result, he has had his carotid artery cleaned out on both sides of his neck and has had a heart attack all due to smoking. I never really thought about the dangers so much but have lost a father in law, a boss, a good friend as well as her brother due to lung cancer. My mom has emphasema and my sister in law had to have her carotid arteries cleaned out too. My dad died of a heart attack also due to smoking. My daughter is on chantix to quit. She has been off cigarettes for about 4 months now. Her husband also still smokes. These are decisions we make in life, I must say I enjoyed smoking for the most part, but now I can't stand the smell of it in my husband's clothing. He is not allowed to smoke in my car or in the house and he respects that. I also don't condone people who smoke since I have been in their shoes. Good Luck and hope this will make a difference in your life.

Just don't buy any more.

when you are certain you are quitting it is a breeze

You can do it, just be strong

i quit cold turkey as well. I choose not to buy ciggies every nite. works for me.

don't think about the cancer sticks, just when you get the sensation of smoking take a shower run around the block or do something to get your mind off of smoking.

Buy some gum instead - find something to orally fixate you...

(yikes - blushing)

Are you really ready to quit? If you are don't buy any more. If you're not, better get to the store.

I had to quit slowly like weaning yourself off of them get some gum and some hard candy I used to buy toothpicks and I chewed on them to it will be hard but you can do it.

take it head on, go cold turkey. join a support group so that you can call someone at 2am to talk about how crazy you're feeling.

you can do this!!!! i'm so excited for you. not buying that pack of cig's is a huge step in quitting. don't keep any in the house. after a day or two it'll start getting easier and then you will only crave one when you're stressed. eventually you won't even think about cig's anymore.

you can do this, if you have children, they will be so proud of you!!~~~

buy some regular bubble gum and chew chew chew.......it'll help with stressful times

No don,t buy cos you will just be tempted .good luck to you !!

You can do it. Just stay positive. Stay busy that will help. Think about how much healthier you will be and feel.

No keep trying to quit because if you buy another pack, you will smoke again. I quit cold turkey 10 years ago because after smoking for 11 years I couldn't hardly breathe anymore and I thought that I was going to die!

I was trying too but I ended up buying ............S***!!
I just smoked one and felt that I really wasn't sooooo much in need for it.......... :(

You'll do it!! All the luck!!!
As for me......................................... Maybe..

You can do it

You should try smoking cessation message boards or communities online. That way you can get lots of support through people who have been through it or are going through it.

I tried to quit 5 times before I actually did it. I tried the patched, the gum, and cold turkey. None of those worked for me because I just had all this anxiety (which normally I do not). I finally had a friend who said she quit with Chantix so I decided to try that and it worked really well for me.

On a scale from 1-10, with 10 being the most difficult, it was about a 3 trying to quit with Chantix.

Another thing I would recommend is change your schedule. If you change your schedule you can start to change your habits.

Best of luck!

please listen do not buy any more tonight if u can ,manage buy keeping busy till this time tomorrow the cravings will not b as bad i know i have not smoked for 53 days now xx

Don't get any, you can do it. I know you can :)

You deal with it, dont burden your bad decisions in life on me.
