Why do doctors scare people?!

Question: doctor calle me to say lab work came back ok but one thing is questionable so come back in so we can make sure it isn't cancer. why do they have to be so dramatic? it could be something, it could be nothing. and it does not have to be cancer. do you think a doctor should say such stuff? why not just tell the person to come back into do a double check on the labwork? why scare people mentioning illnesses and diseases and stuff when the labwork re-check hasn't even been done?

From my experience doctors have to tell you the worse case scenario because if they didn't then you would probably not go back and see them knowing that it is not serious and then the problem may get worse without treatment

not all doctors !!

Doctors tend not to sugar-coat anything they say. This doctor would be better off having someone else in the office make the call.
The doctor was pretty sure you did not have cancer, and so did not realize that mention of cancer can scare people. It probably seemed to your doctor like a positive, optimistic statement, not something scary.
Doctors tend to offend patients unintentionally, especially with respect to cancer. Think about it: At one point, most doctors were big-time nerds, so how much can they change?

One reason and one reason only - because he wants to get paid $ to tell you the news, good or bad. If he tells you over the phone, he loses an office visit charge.

LEGALITIES!

i dont think doctors mean to scare you they just can help it.

Heather is right. If they did not give you a reason why they wanted to do some additional blood work, you would never show up again for those tests. They give you a disease explanation when they talk with you because whatever was abnormal on your blood test could be caused by this. If they hadn't stated this, you would be sitting at home wondering why they want more blood and imagining all sorts of diseases because they did not mention anything to you. Is it better to know what they are looking for and trying to rule out or sit at home guessing. My bet is on the more knowledge you have, the better you can participate in your care. It is not their intent to scare you but to prepare and plant an idea so that if the worst case scenario comes about, you have already had a warning. Hopefully, your blood tests will come out negative for whatever they are rechecking and everything will be fine.
