Question: I seem to have bruised the back of my hand pretty badly since the skin has become this brownish color that sort of stands out and it hasn't changed back to its normal color. Could this be permanent?

Absolutely! at least for a while... I still have a paintball "ring" on my thigh from a game over a year ago. Still looks like it did the week after... ugh.
yea i got smacked with a softball once and you could see the mark for a few years actually lol
