Certain foods do show 'links' to cancer, but nothing has been proven indefinately. Let it be said that most people with cancer have a genetic predisposition to the disease. Certain things (most known, smoking) can 'turn on the cancer gene'. Studies have shown that people who consume lots of things with preservatives (someone mentioned this) like canned foods and lunch meats have higher incidences of cancer. There is also a link between colon cancer and red meat. American's in particular are exposed to high levels of pesticides in the food they eat. There is also a lot of dyes in food, even produce! Some of these dyes are suspected to cause cancer, but again, nothing has been proven indefinately. This may also have something do with cancer rates. The bottom line on cancer is that there's no one thing that causes it. It's most likely a combination of several factors.

I dont think they've definitevely PROVEN anything but they say things with a lot of preservatives (canned food that can sit on ur shelf for years) is a risk factor. A lot of cancer foundations list that as a risk factor.

There is no food that is proven to cause cancer; neither is there any food proven to prevent, treat or cure cancer, or to affect the progress of cancer in any way.

As I typed that I realised I had answered a very similar question earlier and I think that may have been from you too...

Oh well, I DO know the answer, and it remains the same:

People are quick to give opinions on cancer and food because it's less frightening for many people who haven't had cancer to 'blame the victim' - to put cancer down to the individual's lifestyle eg poor diet - than it is to accept that cancer is a random disease that can strike any of us at any time.

Is your school project on foods that cause cancer? If so it reflects the teacher's own prejudices and lack of knowledge - the question should have been far more open.

Sorry - but there really are NO foods proven to cause cancer.

Well I don't know if this is what you're looking for, but sticking water bottles in the fridge and using tupperware/plastic wrap in the microwave is known to cause cancer.

Also margerine. Your body tries to use it because it thinks it is natural fat, but it isn't, so it messes up your DNA and may be a cause of cancer also.

Only thing that I can tell you for sure is that vegetarians have much less cancer than people who eat lots of meat.. especially red meat... I'm sure some of the vegetarian websites have the figures that you need.
