Should I cut back on my sugar intake?!

Question: My family just found out that my dad has diabetes late last year. Since he's my father and diabetes could be hereditary, should I cut back on sugars now? I'm 20 years old.

I would worry less about sugar and more about total carbs. It's not the sugar that causes type two diabetes, it's the fat buildup in the cells due to a phenomenon called "metabolic syndrome" where too many carbs and not enough exercise raise the insulin levels and cause unwanted fat storage. The result is insulin resistance... the precursor to type two diabetes.

I bought into that garbage about cutting back on sugar because that's what my mom's doc told her. It's nonsense. Sugar doesn't cause diabetes.

Yes, start to eat a healthy diet and exercise. Try to keep your weight inline. Start your new healthy lifestyle and you may not have any problems.
Best of Luck

It doesn't hurt. But you should also remember to work out, even if that means going for a walk. Just eat a healthy balance diet and you should be okay. But you should maybe next time you go to the doctors for a checkup tell them about your dad and they can tell you when you should be tested. Good Luck to you. Things will be okay.

if he got type 1 then u of corse still have a chance of getting it but its less likely most of the time type 1 skips a generation (not always tho) if its type two then u are at higher risk but as long as do keep a healthy weight u should be fine. However diet and exercise is ALWAYS a good thing to keep u healthy
