Olive oil and dry skin?!

Question: I don't so much itch as I do sting, anyway that is how I explain it. I don't use soap to wash my face and I cut off all my hair so I can rub baby oil on the whole business. I did use olive oil the other night, I had heard that was good. Is that true? I used the extra virgin. We had a little booklet on olive oil and it seems like an actress actuall took a bath in the stuff plus drank so much of it each morning. Do you think drink some would help too?

I like to use sesame oil b/c it doesn't have as strong a sent as the olive oil. Lots of massage therapists use this oil, and Neutragena sells it in the lotion aisle (get the unscented). I prefer the cooking kind though b/c it is much cheaper (DON"T buy the toasted sesame oil, you'll smell like Chinese food). Don't use baby oil, it will clog your pores and make you break out.

The best way to use these oils is to apply right after a shower, BEFORE you dry off. That way it seals in all of the moisture, but gets the excess off so you don't feel like an oil slick. Another thing you can use at the same time, switch to BASIS soap, it is super fatted and VERY mild & you can use it on your whole body This is the soap I used when I lived in Alaska where there are extreme temps and VERY low humidity (I live in Florida now so I don't need it). Make sure you drink 8-12 glassses of water every day (2-3 liters).

And NO, do not drink the oil, it would just make you live in the bathroom if you get my drift.

No, drinking would be not good I think...but rubbing it on your skin would be nice. It's also good for your hair.

Consuming olive oil will increase your intake of essential fatty acids which will likely help your skin condition...unfortunately supplementation may take up to 2 months to get a significant change. If your skin is this dry I'd suggest beta carotene supplements as well to boost your vit. A levels. As BC is water soluble you wil urinate the excess...regular vit A is fat soluble and can accumulate to toxic levels if taken in high doses so beware...BC is safer.
You might instead of olive oil...consider cod liver oil for a couple months...shoot for 2000mg/dayfor a while..then down to 1000 mg/day

In the mean while...try vaseline. This will help retain moisture, and keep the dry skin from becoming infected. Mineral oils like this could lead to a break out in some people if used on the face so try it cautiously.

do not drink it, that wouldn't help, in fact i don't see what that would do for your skin at all, just rub it on and it will feel better

if your skin is really dry try vaseline, put it on before you go to sleep put on gloves/socks to seal it in otherwise just slather it on.

Yes and you don't have to use exrta virgin, anykind works. Worked construction and my hands cracked in the winter so I tryed it at night with latex gloves over my hands when I slept and after trying everything else, they healed in 3 days!!! Good Luck.

The best skin lotion I have found is Aveeno, the whole line is good.It has Lavender, chamomile, and yiang-yiang.Love the stuff. They have soaps too,and it feels so good everywhere.
I have bad dry feet I use it on my hands and feet, works great!
Olive oil is a bit tricky because, if you use too much it can clog pores.
