What can I do about this constipation and hemorrhoids? (serious, coherent answer!

Question: I've been constipated for the past month or so. I'm pretty sure it's the Wellbutrin my psych just added to my meds about a month ago. I can't discontinue the med. I've been using Benefiber (for fiber intake) and colace (stool softener) and increased water intake since it started, without much help. I strain very hard without any success. I tried drinking mineral oil and senna laxatives, and I've been having to give myself an enema even just to go at all, and even then, I have to manually PULL the stool out (very hard, dark green clumps that are pretty small--seem small enough that I should be able to pass) with gloves on of course, and there is a LOT of yellow-green mucus in my stool that passes easily. The hemorrhoids I had at first were pretty manageable, but now there's one that is HUGE (from the top of anus to bottom of vagina), looks bright pink and is excruciatingly painful. i used to be able to push it back in, no problem, but now it won't go and is too painful to even touch

magnesium citrate. It comes in liquid form. I suggest cherry.. Doc had me on morphine. I got so ill from not being able to go I went to the hospital.. now I keep a bottle in my fridge... works wonders. stay close to the toilet!!!.

Try eating more fruit and veggies. Good luck, that is very painful.

It's going to sound goofy, but eat figs. Your constipation is probably leading to hemorrhoid flair up, which in turn leads back to the constipation :( When mine are giving me problems I normally eat figs, like a bag of the Sunmaid calmyra figs spaced out over a day. The high fiber will help retain water in the stool and also will help push out whatever is in there. Since you are having such problems I'd try to start small.

You could try using hemorrhoid cream, suppositories, or ointments too, because these can make it so that you more easily push the feces out.

Have you seen a doctor? Mucus in the stool isn't a normal thing so you might want to mention that. Also tell your doctor that this has happened after starting the Welbutrin. My hemorrhoids were always worse during my periods, so that might factor into yours.

I read in a book that cactus juice is pretty good for hemorrhoids. Get the actual plant and squeeze it to acquire the juice and apply it to the affected area. Repeat the process several times and you should see the difference within days.

stick to a high fiber diet. i work for a digestive specialist we give this diet to everyone who has constipation issues.

1. 2-4 senna tab in the morning

2. special k cereal for breakfast

3. a bowl of fresh prunes/ or fruit

4. glass of water or juice

5. 1 scoopful of miralax with water or juice before bedtime

(both the senna tablets and miralax are over the counter.)
do this everyday to keep your digestive system on a routine and your stools should be softer and not irritate the hemorrhoids.
