What do you think of school policy excluding or including children known to have!

Question: Do you think kids should stay home until there are no nits present, or be allowed to remain in the classroom? There are strong arguments for both sides of the issue. I'm curious to know where you stand. Thanks.

I understand the point of the harvard recommendations of not isolating kids who may not have an active case.

However, after looking at the pictures, what teacher, school nurse, or administrator is going to want to take the risk (in terms of liability and in transmission) that they can identify the difference between viable and unviable eggs --- personally, the day before hatching egg and the empty egg look pretty alike.

I can just see the school making a mistake and some parent suing because their kid got lice.

Plus, you would have to look at EACH and EVERY egg to determine if it was an active case. No one has the time to do that - not even a doctor (again there is liability involved).

While the policy might keep uninfected kids out of school, it is still the most simple and logical plan out there.

They should absolutly stay home.

If not lice will continunally move from kid to kid and will keep going. You will never be able to get rid of them.

Of course they should stay at home. That is the smart/curteous thing to do. Otherwise there would be an eppidemic and NO ONE would be at school.

I think they should stay home until they are free of lice or nits. There are products and methods to get rid of the lice and this should be done before the return to school; otherwise others will continually be at risk for getting lice as well

Thanks

well i think that for a day or 2 yes while they are treated so that it wont be passed and the child can help the parents put toys in bags (and leave them in there for 2 weeks or more) and "de lice" everything ( lack of better word ) spray the beds and couches and treat all family members other wise its passed from kid to kid and if its a girl child leave their hair up for a while....but other than that no the kids should be fine to go to school

I think that children should have to stay home. head lice can be spread very very fast and once they're going around, it's very hard to stop them. There may be work missed and it will be hard to catch up if you stay home from school, but it's worth it if it gets rid of the lice.
