Attention Smokers - Your help please.?!

Question: Although I'm sure I'll get LOTS of posts from non-smokers, I'm looking for input from smokers. :)

I'm a smoker & had bronchitis last March for the first time in 15 yrs. I thought I had emphysema (I'm 39), so my dr did blood work, series of chest xrays, etc and said no, my lungs are healthy, but obviously I should still stop smoking. I also had a chest CT scan a few months ago (for an unrelated reason) and the results were normal.

Dr said it can take a year or longer for a smokers breathing to return to normal after bronchitis because the bronchial tubes stay irritated. I also have a touch of asthma.

So.. It's been a year, and although I'm usually good I still have a bad breathing day every once in a while (like today) - especially when pollen is high. If you've had bronchitis - how long did it take to get completely back to normal?

i am a smoker, and although i havene't had bronchitis i have had pnemonia... it took months to get over that.. but i sounds like what you have is allergies.. i've noticed that after i got over my pnemonia there are days that i breath worse than others... it's usually caused by allergies or if i've been in a smokey bar or around a lot of smokers... hope this helps

you could be completely over the bronchitis but this is a symptom from your asthma - allergies could effect this as well (with the pollen being high comment). it's also possible that your lungs became more sensitive from the bronchitis and this is something new you'll have to deal with.

i'm not a medical doctor but it sounds to me life if it's been this long and this is still something you're struggling with then it's not related to the bronchitis. ask your doctor? my bet is on the asthma.

It took 2 1/2 years for me to get back to normal (after the first episode) and I had never had bronchitis before. If it recurs, ask the doctor to give you a different antibiotic. As soon as I ask for different meds, it went away, stayed gone, and I haven't had it again. That was 5 years ago (it started in '01 and continued to recur until '03).
