Signs of Diabetes??? If you have knowledge in this category please read.?!

Question: Ok, so I was watching that show Scrubs, (and YES i know its just a tv show, BUT) one of the the claims they make on that show is that the symptoms of diabetes are fatigue, wieght loss, and frequent urination. I'm assuming this is true right?
Now, when I heard this I thought to myself.."I have all those symptoms. And it runs in my family."
But does that necessarily mean anything?
What are other symptoms that associate with Diabetes?
What else might it be if its not that?
--And yes I know, that's what Doctors are for, but no insurance, so cynics, cut me some slack. =P

What are the symptoms of diabetes?

People who think they might have diabetes must visit a physician for diagnosis. They might have SOME or NONE of the following symptoms:

Frequent urination
Excessive thirst
Unexplained weight loss
Extreme hunger
Sudden vision changes
Tingling or numbness in hands or feet
Feeling very tired much of the time
Very dry skin
Sores that are slow to heal
More infections than usual.
Nausea, vomiting, or stomach pains may accompany some of these symptoms in the abrupt onset of insulin-dependent diabetes, now called type 1 diabetes.

If it runs in your family ask if you can use their kit. Eat two hours before you test your blood, anywhere between 70 and 150 is normal.

Some things to watch for are:

- Extreme fatigue after not eating for extended periods of time
- Claminess and sweating when fasting
- increased thirst

The list goes on and on. Go to the American Diabetes Assoc web site for more info. http://www.diabetes.org/home.jsp

When I was diagnosed with diabetes I'd been having symptoms for almost a month. I had lost around 35 pounds, I was constantly hungry, and constantly thirsty. Like having dry mouth all the time and not being able to drink enough water. By frequent urination it means you have to go constantly, I was going about once every 15 minutes to a half an hour. Three days before I ended up in the hospital I started having flu like symptoms on top of those listed above (my body was pretty messed up at this point) If you are having those symptoms, get to a doctor.

The symptoms of Diabetes are:
Fatigue
very thirsty
frequent urination
weight loss
changes in vision

If you are 50% over your ideal body weight and Diabetes runs in your family, you have two risk factors.

The thirst that comes with Diabetes is almost like you cannot drink enough, some people have described it as " I could be standing next to a water cooler and just keep drinking"
I know its hard with out Medical insurance but if you do have 3 of these symptoms you will need medical treatment.

yes Scrubs is right...those are symptoms. other symptoms are extreme hunger, increased thirst, blurred vision. I know you dont want to hear this, but you need to go to the doctor. If you have diabetes, then you might have to get some meds and the only way you'll get those meds is through a doctor

weight loss, weight gain, constantly tired, frequent urinating, dehydrated, head aches, dizzy, irritability, vommiting, fever, hot flashes, chills

Seems you may need to get checked, especially if it runs in the family. I no longer have insurance either, but im guessing theres some sort of clinic around that can help you out. As far as what else it could be, could be so many things thats why its best to try and find a doctor.

The 3 classic signs of possible diabetes are: polyuria (frequent trips to the bathroom to pee), polyphagia (hungry all the time) and polydipsia (thirsty so much feels like you can't drink enough). Weight loss is something that occurs late in the disease process and is not a good sign. If you have the 3 classic signs, go to the doctor and he'll do a glucose tolerance test. You will be given a liquid to drink that has a set amount of sugar in it and then blood samples will be drawn to see how your body responses to the sugar.

Yes, these are common symptoms for diabetes. Yes, it does mean something. You need to get tested. Try a free clinic and find out what's going on. Do NOT delay, this is a very serious disease and if left untreated can be fatal.

Check out the links for symptoms on this blog

also read the link on testing. If you can borrow a meter, and do the tests, you 'll be closer to knowing what's going on, but you still need to see a doctor.

I was diagnosed with diabetes last year and I pretty much experienced all the signs of diabetes. These include:
-Frequent Urination
-Blurred Vision
-Extreme Weight Loss
-Fatigue
-Sweating
-Mood Swings
Just because you experience these things does not necessarily mean you are diabetic.
