Infection...but doctor doesn't know what kind?????!

Question: My uncle went to the ER Saturday & they told us he had an infection but they don't know what kind it is....this happened to my aunt (his sister, 3 yrs.) She got real sick, went to ER, they told us an infection but could not tell us what kind and she died 2 weeks later (she was on life support the whole time, she never came to) Anyone heard of this or could shed some light? Thanks.

There are thousands of different bacteria which can harm us, and it can be very difficult for doctors to figure out which one has infected us just by looking at symptoms. It sounds liek your Aunt was very unlucky, and caught a particularly bad strain which overwhelmed her before she could get the right treatment.

When your uncle ws in the ER, they will haev drawn a blood sample and will be looking at this to see what kind of bacteria infected him. When they know the bacteria, they will know the best antibiotic to use, since different antibiotics work on different bacteria.

As soon as they know what bacteris it is they'll give him the best prescription, and he should recover quickly and fully.

I know what happend to you Aunt was a bit of a shock, but trust me, your Uncle will be fine, and those lab technicians will be working right now to figure out whats wrong with him.

Give him a big hug and tell him he'll be ok - he will!

Spiral Meningitis??? *sp

depends where the infection is in the body,if its the brain ,thats bad

nope sorry

It is possible to have an infection and not know exactly what organism it is, but the doctors should at least know if it is a bacterial or viral infection from the symptoms and blood tests. Did they just give him medicine and sent him home? Or did they keep him in the hospital to watch him, give him medicine, and make sure he didn't get any sicker? That is what they should have done.

My son was comatose and he had a infection and they couldn't figure it out. When they did it was a infection (I don't know if I am spelling this right) called Sudamonis. Ask your doctor if they have checked for this and I may not be pronouncing it quite but the doctor will know what you are trying to say. This infection is hard to detect. This infection can also cause death if not treated. Also this is a infection that is overlooked in the medical field. From the way I understand it...it is something Dr's may not realize to check. I don't know if this is a rare infection but I got that impression. My son got this infection and a different doctor was trying to figure out what infection it was and when I told him he had sudamonis before the dr checked right away and sure enough he had sudamonis. It is worth contacting your dr immediately because its possible the infection is sudamonis

your question is very vague. anyone who offers a diagnosis in this forum does not know that they are talking about. If you tell us the specifics of the illness...we might give you a diagnosis.
