Answers: Either diagnosed at the time or a case that was later found to be cancer after its classification
Cancer has been around a for a very long time, in fact the world's oldest documented case of cancer stems from ancient Egypt, in 1500 b.c. However, it wasn't until sometime later when the word "Cancer" evolved from the Greek where the Greek physician (Hippocrates) used the Greek word carcinos and carcinoma to describe tumours, around 300B.C.
It's described in ancient texts, though they didn't know exactly what it is until after the field of microscopy.
Very good question! I just always thought that it was something that has been around forever but wasn't given a name because they didn't know what it was. Awesome question!
