Has anyone with Tourette Syndrome taken Lexapro or Zoloft??!

Question: If so what are the pro's and con's of each?

I just want some 'real-life' opinions other than a professionals.

I have an 18 year old relative debating on taking one of these that his Neurologist recommended.

i have never heard of those being prescribed for it. i used to be on anti depressants and i noticed no change in my turrets. for it when i was young i was given haldol...didn't help. sadly the best thing is to learn to live with it. most treatments on work on a very small number of people.

  • Sorry as I am not able to answer the question as how it would apply to tourette's, but I'll give insight when I can:

As a kid thru age 17, I was diagnosed with the following "disorders" or as I'll refer to them: "my gifts".

(I affectionatly refer to them as "gifts", for the reason that as I matured, I was able to harness & channel these traits into productive uses)
(this is why I actually do so well in my profession)

    HA,ADD
    Obsessive compulsive behaviorial disorder
    Very, VERY, slight autism
    a schitso-like mania
    Anti-social somthin or other

as well as little bits & pieces of other "gifts".

To make a long story short, I was on medications such as:

    Ritilin
    Prozac
    Neurontin
    Zoloft
(also 1 other, to which I cannot recall the name)

At one time I was on 3 different drugs at the same time.
After a long F*****G trial & error with cocktails, back & forth,
it was mutually decided to only use zoloft to control my "gifts".

I was on that for several years until I decided to wean myself off at about 17.

*** I've been drug free for almost a decade + lovin' it ***

Sorry to have gone on a rant, but I have to say truthfully that zoloft (with the correct dosage) is the only one that diddn't leave me feeling like I was slugged in the stomach every day.
    (I never took lexapro)

My wishes extend to the fam.
