I have had bronchitis many times. Sometimes I start out with a cold or sinus problems which move to my chest, but sometimes I start right out with the "croupy" cough typical of bronchitis or a tighter, "barking" cough that progresses to a looser, more productive "croupy" cough as the bronchitis progresses. I think that bronchitis probably has a literal meaning of an inflamation of the bronchial tubes, since I know that "itis" always refers to an inflammation of, or in, some area of the body. I sometimes run a low-grade fever for at least part of the time that I am ill. The cough may hang on in some form for weeks after I have begun to feel quite a bit better, usually bothering me more in the evening and during the night unless I sleep in an easy chair or propped up in bed.

The website RightHealth gives the information below.

"The symptoms of either type of bronchitis [acute or chronic] include:

Cough that produces mucus; if yellow-green in color, you are more likely to have a bacterial infection
Shortness of breath worsened by exertion or mild activity
Wheezing
Fatigue
Fever -- usually low
Chest discomfort
Even after acute bronchitis has cleared, you may have a dry, nagging cough that lingers for several weeks."

One has to be careful, because some doctors will refuse to give an antibiotic, assuming that bronchitis is always just viral. One can; however, develop a secondary infection during the course of the bronchitis episode that is bacterial. This often happens to me, and I plod along miserably until the doctor agrees to try an antibiotic. I begin to feel better shortly thereafter. This is not psychological, because I am usually able to (pardon me, please) cough up and blow out things I couldn't get rid of in the preceding weeks and feel better fairly quickly.

As RightHealth says, " Sometimes, you may get another (secondary) bacterial infection in the airways. This means that bacteria infect the airways, in addition to the virus."

coughing, wheezing, lack of energy, fever. You need to get to a doctor to bronchitis properly.

A really bad deep in the chest cough which is usually worse in the morning and at night. weakness and irritability.

Unusual mucous build up in your throat that is not relieved.

You start to feel tired, run a temp, cough, and phlegm can be yellow/green. You chest may feel tight or even hurt from the coughing. Sometimes people will even feel short of breath due to the swelling of the bronchial tubes and the mucus build up. The only way to cure it is to have antibiotics prescribed by a doctor and sometimes an inhaler. A chest x-ray must be taken to properly diagnosis bronchitis. Good luck and I hope that you feel better soon.
