Can people with Autism drive?!

Question: Autism is a spectrum disorder which means that there are different degrees of the disorder. All of them involve some degree of not interacting with the person's environment. I would think it would have to be very mild in order for the person to be able to drive. You might check with your local DMV for a more definitive answer.

I don't think so no. =/

Maybe it depends on how bad the Autism is and if its controlled enough.

Except in really severe cases, autistics can drive. The DMV is in no position to diagnose mental disorders.

What's more, even mental health professionals are confused as to what constitutes autism. They are just as apt to diagnose schizoid personality disorder, reactive attachment disorder, borderline personality disorder, tourette's syndrome, etc. The only reason that there is an increase in autism diagnoses nowadays is that people seem to prefer that diagnosis, and professionals have no reason not to diagnose it. There are no neurological or chemical or genetic tests for autism, and most of the symptoms of autism are exactly the same as the above mentioned mental disorders.
