Heart races after meals?!

Question: Lately I've noticed my heart racing after I finish a decent size meal. I had a chicken breast and mashed potatoes for dinner last night and had the racing pulse. I was just more aware of my pulse, you know how you get that light pounding in your chest and head after you go up stairs...but I was sitting for quite some time.

Today I had 3 small battered fish fillets, a salad and cottage cheese, and I'm now feeling the same thing.

I DO drink quite a bit of water with my meals...2 standard bottled waters...

Any ideas what this could be?

That's very common and happens to everyone. I'd guess it's just your metabolism kicking into gear so that it can process the food.

It could be thyroid disease or your blood can be low - I would ask your doctor ASAP.

You could also have anxiety - are you stressed out lately over anything? If you are bulimic, that could also be why your heart is racing after meals.

Also - perhaps you have asthma.

I would definitely consult with a doctor. It could be something minor or worst case scenario, it could be something serious - better safe than sorry.

i feel sorry for you i have gone through the same thing
you must have a fast heart rate problem
i would see a doctor if i were you
take your palse if it is over 100 it is to fast
some medications cause this and some times low on iron and other things
this is why you need a doctor to know forsure what the problem is

I have that same problem and had testing done. I was told that I abnormally feel my heart beating, when others don't. Lucky me! I do have a heart condition though that may have brought it on called mitral valve prolapse. This may be your problem also. You should see a doctor to find out if that is what you have. I have found that eating slowly helps with the racing/pounding heart. My doctor said that the heart rate normally increases while we eat, but most people don't feel it. Were just the lucky ones that do! Good luck
