Exzema in infants?!

Question: My daughter is 22 months and a rash developed on one side of her face yesterday which is red itchy and inflamed. Treated it with e45 cream overnight and this morning took her to the health centre who appear to think it is exzema. There is no family history of this condition and i am concerned that she will suffer with it now. I didnt know that it can just appear like that and i also thought that if infants got it then it was normally earlier than 2 years? Any advice greattly appreciated.

Chronic eczema tends to appear in infants earlier than 22 months. My grandson got it at 5 weeks which is about normal. An itchy rash can develop for lots of reasons - usually it's allergy related. Could she be allergic to something you washed the sheets with? Did she eat something new that could have caused it? A cortisone cream should clear it up fairly quickly. If she was going to have chronic eczema I really think it would have shown up before now. An allergy test is painless and worth doing - see your doctor.

it could be from clothings especially woolens.

It could be eczema or something else. Get her checked out for allergies. All I know is my brother had it when he was growing up until his late teens. It could be related to certain foods that her mother must have eaten during pregnancy.
