How do I heal the cracking skin on my hands...It's so painful!?!

Question: I constantly have my hands in water & it's winter. The skin around my nails splits and actually makes me unable to use my hands and is extremely painful. I have 2 small children and am useless without my hands.....Help?? I have tried many lotions, bandages, gloves but it's not helping.

I have skin conditions myself. I have been told to see a Dermatologist. So ask your Primary Care doctor, one that is good in your local area. And, please go, for they can help you!

You need to dry your hands after they get wet

If you have tried a lot of moisturising lotions with no success then you have to see a dermatologist for some kind of prescription.

I think you're over drying your skin (which is causing crack, peel). This may sound gross, but for your special case, I think you should skip a day taking shower. The reason for this is because too much water will dry out your skin and since it's winter, you already have dry skin so dry skin+removing natural oils of body= super cracked skin. Let your body regenerate some oils then take shower. Also, if you like to wash your hands a lot, try buying a hand sanitizer alcohol based and also with a moisturizer. Try using cocoa butter as well. That stuff really moistures your skin. If you don't know which to buy, buy a jar of "Palmer's cocoa butter". But LOTS overnight and you should feel a tiny bit better. This process is going to take a week or so but it should work.
