Why should you avoid direct sunlight when taking antibiotics?!

Question: Does this apply to all skin tones or lighter complexion skin?

Answers: Does this apply to all skin tones or lighter complexion skin?

Avoiding direct sunlight exposure actually only applies to certain antibiotics and some other medications. These medications increase your photosensitivity. Some medications do this by thinning the skin, others cause reactions between sunlight and the drug or its metabolites in the skin - resulting in an increased chance of getting a sun burn. This applies to all skin types, but especially to those with fair complexions (who are already more sensitive to sunlight).

i believe that it applies to all... the reason is because antibiotics make your skin more sensitive to sunlight.

Here is an article that helps explain.

Like JC said it can apply to all skin types but more so on "sun burn" reaction for fair skin.
