Does anyone know anything about gerd? Is it like acid reflux? Help!!?!

Question: Sometimes when I eat food gets stuck in my throat and feels like it won't go down. And sometimes I get chest pains (but it's not heart related because I've been to the ER twice and they never find anything wrong with my heart)

Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is acid reflux. You're going to have to change your diet.
An important part of treating GERD is avoiding the things that stimulate your symptoms. These include foods such as spicy or fatty foods, chocolate, drinks that contain caffeine or alcohol, behaviors such as smoking, and taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or other medications that increase symptoms.
Good Luck!

GERD is another name for acid reflux.

you may also have narrowing of your esophagus stinosis which can give you the feeling of food getting stuck....

GERD is exactly acid reflux,

I actually had surgery for this because I had it really bad, at one point, I even threw up pure stomach acid (not fun)

try some over the counter acid reducers next time you have that kind of pain and see if it helps (zantac or prilosec or whatever you like)

If it seems to help, your doctor may want to do an Upper GI test or a scope to see how bad the damage is.

The pictures they took of my insides were worse that the ones they keep on file to show people, which is why I had surgery. It's been about 10 years since the surgery and there's been no real problem ever since. They even did the surgery by scope so the down time was pretty short.

Gerd is exactly like acid reflux disease. Your doctor should do an upper GI test just to rule out anything else. Prilosec is helpful, but check with your doc first.

GERD= gastrointestinal esophageal reflux disease. You should consult a gastrointestinal Dr. Daily medication will help control the symptoms because if this continues too long you could develop erosion of the esophagus due to the acidic juices backing up. You could try any OTC acid reducer to see if it helps, but they could take a few days before you notice a difference. You could try keeping a diary of what you eat, what time you eat, sitting at the table, lying on the couch, and when the symptoms occur. This would be helpful for diagnosis.
