Can asthma meds lower your immune system significantly?!

Question: It seemed to do so to me. Ever since I've been on the meds, I don't actually feel better. I feel better to a DEGREE, but even the meds have side effects and make me feel out of it and drowsy.

Especially the steroids like prednisone and drugs like Symbicort/Advair.

I had a fever twice in the last month already, not to mention ALWAYS feeling under the weather while I"m on these meds, and it's come to the point where I'd rather have asthma be worse than be on these meds and get sick more often.

Besides, If I'm constantly sick or somewhat sick, it's going to make my asthma worse anyways, so it defeats the purpose.

They say these meds only go into your lungs and don't affect you systemically, but then why have I been getting sick?

I really have. I even got some weird red rash spots on my..private part, which formed tiny bump things and eventualliy like dried up its gross. it really is. Never noticed that before.

And my eyes have a glossy look to them & fatigue.

If you feel like crap then talk to your doctor. However the steriods (prednisone and advair ARE imunosuppressants (they suppress your immune system. They are used to help loosen and open the bronchia so you can breathe easier.
And as for the rash JUST in that area I highly doubt is from the steroids. You prolly got THAT from something else. Either way you should talk to your doc.

Get back to your doctor! Read the labels....it is possible to be allergic to medications--no surprise there! You need to let your doctor know. No one expects you to just go on suffering. Good asthma control is supported with communication with your doctor. Get some relief!
