What makes our noses run and sneezing during a cold?!
Question: I know that it is a viral infection. I am curious as to what is specifically going on in the body that makes our nose run.

When a rhino-virus attacks the human body, our immune responses go into overdrive....Mucosal secretions from the sinuses and sneezing are the body's ways of trying to rid the virus from the system.....That's why you feel "run down" as there is literally a fight going on inside your body.....
The best way to prevent colds/flu is to NEVER touch your hands to your mouth or nose......And NEVER means just that, never. If you have an itch on you nose, rub it with the back of your hand or sleeve.......If people would quit reinfecting themselves with rhino-viruses, the incidence of colds and flu would be much less than they are now....

Well, when you are cold, your nerves slow down and can't work that well
actually, it is the mucous membranes in your nose making you sneeze. when germs enter the body through your nose, mucous membranes surround them. this creates boogers. the little hairs in your nose are called cilia and when a germ gets covered in mucous, the cilia try to force it out of your nose. this makes you sneeze and your nose run.
