My son (6 months) has developed lots of spots!?!

Question: Around his chin mostly, with one or two on his cheeks.

They seem to be spreading, sore and red with occassional yellow heads.

We wash him in plain water only. Just wondered what is best to put on them if anything?

HV says theyre normal but didn't suggest anything.

He didn't suggest anything because there isn't anything you need to put on them except plain old soap and water. Likely what you have here is a case of pacifier mouth, with the drool being spread across the cheek of his more dominant hand. Make sure the pacifier has ventilation holes, and you might want to swap them out for clean and santized versions periodically during the day. Also be sure to do a cleaning wipe of all those favorite "tasting" toys every day, and all the others at least every couple days to help prevent something nasty moving in. The key to his face is trying to keep that little chin dry, and the spit wiped off so it's not collecting behind the pacifier for long periods of time. A little sunlight and air should help a great deal. It's not pimples in the usual sense, although they may look like it. So don't go wild with the acne gel. If you want to use something to clean his skin beyond the soap and water, use witch hazel. It's soothing to skin, and naturally antibacterial- so it will help keep things from getting infected while the skin heals itself. If things really get raw looking, use a vitamin E gel cap for the gel it contains. Poke a hole in one end and just squeeze a few drops out onto the affected skin. Use a clean finger to gently smooth it on, and then leave it be. That will help as a moisture barrier to protect and heal the skin. Works on the other end as well- should diaper rash show up. Sunlight, air and vitamin E gel do wonders for that sort of thing all over baby bodies.

Sounds like a milk rash to me. I would just keep what you are doing they will soon dry up and go away.

Please call your Dr. and make an appt. asap

he might be teething, they get spotty then. If they do spread see the doc

It could be chicken pox. Check with your GP.

Is he cutting teeth? It could just be contact dermatitis from chewing on something. If it bothers you or gets worse take him to the doctor.

sounds like a teething rash I used to use a nappy rash cream on my kids for this,as it has like a water resistance to it and it wont dry the skin out too much

The source below discusses many different types of skin rashes. You may be able to find a diagnosis there.
