Are eating disorders a physical or mental disease?!

Question: Are they even a disease?

Answers: Are they even a disease?

I am NOT a doctor.

mental. Yes it's a disease.

Any personal disorder that causes your body to destroy itself and interferes with a person's quality of life is basically a disease.

When anorexics/bulimics look in a mirror they actually see a different image than what "normal" people do - body dysmorphic disorder or BDD.

Even if they try to eat, their body will process the food very quickly resulting in stomach upset, cramps, diarrhea, pain, etc so they wouldn't want to eat much. Some also like the attention and concern from others. Others become so "lost" they don't care if they live or die.

They are a mental disorder and are listed in the DSM 4, but it should be considered a disease of the mind and body

Mental. It manifests into a physical.
They believe, no matter how thin, that they are not thin enough. That is at least one part of it.

Have u ever thought of how many (not all of course) of physical problems link very much on a simple thought that we have? It's very human to have to deal with personal issues which will include how we view our bodies. but deeply down, most sicknesses r born thru negative thinking. Our minds must become positive if we wanna be always healthy. This is harder than it sounds but very possible. We may need a friend or two!
Hope this answers at least a part of ur Q.
