Why won't alarms or other sounds wake me anymore?!

Question: For years, I have used the same alarm clock, and now it doesn't wake me anymore. I have been told that calling my name does not wake me either. Yesterday, I had something planned at 9pm, which I was really excited about. I set the alarm on my old clock, on my new clock (one of those old style ones with real bells being struck), and the alarm on my cell phone. Still, I slept for ten minutes, until my dog began to dig on my arm to get me to turn off the noise. What is going on? It doesn't matter whether I am excited about getting up or not or how tired I am. I am not being wakened by sound. What do I do?

I do have several health issues, such as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia. However, these illnesses have NOT gotten worse, and my experiences have changed regardless of the state of my illness. I do not feel they are related, other than the fact that I am tired at night, but isn't that normal?

Try buying an alarm clock used by deaf people. It actually goes under the corner of your pillow and it vibrates your pillow to wake you up. Here is an article on assisted devices, including the vibrating alarm clock:

not remembering you dreams is a good thing, it means your body has completed its full sleep cycle

I can't speak for the illnesses but I bet your body is simply getting used to that alarm clock.
I roll on three different alarm clocks set 5 min apart spread around the room to make it more difficult to sleep through them.
Hope that helps.

it's probably that your ear is used to the morning sound of those alarms

Try wering earphones 2 sleep

Maybe the meds you're taking for your health issues are causing this.
Try using an alarm clock with a radio alarm and turn it up full blast. I have to go back and forth with alarm and radio because I get used to the sound. On those days when you HAVE to be up by a certain time, try having a friend or relative call you.

Good Luck!! :)
