If the node does not respond to antibiotics, you need a biopsy. It's not painful. They can put an anesthetic cream on first. It is essential as a biopsy is the only definitive way to rule out lymphoma or other cancers. Blood tests will not do it. There are many things that make lymph nodes swell, and not all of them are cancerous. You need to know for sure what's going on with you. It may not be anything bad. If it is something bad, there are great treatments out there. If the antibiotics do not shrink the swelling, that is a red flag that something else needs to be done in order to find out what's going on in your body. Stick with your doctors until you get some solid answers.

Hi why don't you want to get a biopsy, its the best way to find out what is causing the swelling and then treatment can be started. I had the same problem six months ago and i was also scared but had to have a biopsy done as i knew and understood that whatever cause it was needed to be treated before it got too late, i was diagonised with tuberculosis which is one of the causes of swollen lymph nodes and am on medication now, will be finishing soon. All the best and whatever you do don't go for shortcuts

The only way it can go down is naturally. Heat and pressure will not make it go down and in fact, pressure may make the node rupture...(I had one do that). If it does not go down in time, yes they are going to want to biopsy it, you don't want to then find out months or years down the road that the reason this thing was swollen to begin with (like mine) is because you have lymphoma. Lymphoma is much easier to treat and cure when found early.

I think you should consult your doctor. You are the only one who can check and self examine your body for cysts.
