What is wrong with my son?!

Question: my son has been running a temp of 102.7 for 3 days now. When he came home from school today he started puking and crying that his head hurts. He is 7 and weighs 51.5 lbs by the way. He doesn't have diarehea but has been tired, achy, runnig a mid grade temp and started puking today. I need to get him better soon so he doesn't miss school tomorrow and lose his perfect attendance. This is important to me as well as him. What do you think he has and what should he take to get better? The dr cant see him till thursday btw.

Perfect Attendance can't be messed with. Tell him to grow up, quit belly aching and get to school. He's probably faking this just to get out of some test.

throw a barf bag in his backpack and send the boy on his way. and give holy he** to the school nurse if she even considers sending this little faker home.

Take him to the doctor and quite guessing, in the mean time make sure he gets a lot of fluids

If your doctor can't see him, it's called EMERGENCY ROOM!!! What kind of mother are you that won't take their child to the emergency room when he has a high fever for 3 days?!?! You should not have children.

sounds like the flu. keep him quiet, liquid diet

if you are concern you should take him to ER. Trust your mom's instinct.

You should probably take him by a minor emergency or community clinic tonight. Many of these places are very clean, cheap, and will see your son without an appointment.

try to get him to drink lots of liquids, have him sweat out his fever with blankets...he's probably has a really bad bug...102 is pretty high...he really should see a doctor as soon as possible

Screw the perfect attendance and keep him home! What are you thinking? Send him off to school sick so he can make everyone else sick! He's only 7 and should be home where he can rest and be taken care of, not a school having to deal with not feeling good! Put your priorities where they belong!

He could have a fever. Try some children's motrin in the mean time.

His attendance record is more important to you than his health??
Get him to physician/ER NOW!

You have to think about what is more important...him loosing perfect attendance or him getting better. If I were you, i would let him saty home, Rest and drink many fluids. He needs to get better. If you think about it, if you let him keep on going to school its just going to get worse and he will have to miss even more days of school thatn he would if he rested!! :) i hope that helps

Our schools won't even allow kids back until they've been 24 hours without a fever, so I'd say his perfect attendance is already shot and should be the last thing you're worrying about.

Call the doctor. Three days is too long for a little kid. Also, get him some gingerale...the ginger helps with the nausea and it will help him stay hydrated. He'll keep a little down. If he really hates gingerale, try 7up, but gingerale works better.

Take him to an ER. If he is tired and has a low-grade fever, he could have mono. I'm not sure about the puking part. He sounds like he needs to be seen by a doc. PLEASE do not be so concerned about a perfect attendance record. Schools really should not make a big deal about that. You wouldn't want to go to work sick and neither does your kiddo. It is WAY more important to keep your kid healthy and NOT in school when he is sick - spreading the illness to other kids. Keep him home where he can relax and become healthy. The last thing you need is for him to spread it to his classmates and then get it back.

could be the flu
however it may take a doctors visit
maybe you can get a real early appt

I would take him to the emergency room. If his temp is that high the school nurse never should have let him stay in school and you are exposing other children to whtever he is ill with!! Dehydration is an issue a temp of 102.7 which is NOT a midgrade temp. Take him to the emergency room or call the docotr back and tell him it is an emergency and see what happens there first. Either way he needs to be seen now.

He probably has a virus and it will just have to run its course. One thing I would advise you is that you don't give him anything with sugar in it. No sodas, kool-aid, gatorade, nothing. Just water and broths and crackers will do. My son's pediatrician said that when you have a virus and give it sugar, you are in fact feeding it and it will last longer. Hope this helps.

I wouldn't worry about it. Those thermometers have a +/- 10 degree accuracy tolerance. So he could be anywhere from 92.7 to 112.7 degrees F.

If Doc can't see him till Thursday, I personally would take my son along to the surgery and wait to see the Doc, or better still take him to Acc & Emergency at nearest hospital - if he's had a temp that high for 3 days its a wonder he hasn't had a convulsion. Can't doctor call at your house.

It might be an idea for you to forget the 'no days off school' tag - get your son sorted straight away.

haha um i think there's more to worry about than perfect attendance, and one of those things is health...sounds like the flu

You are right o be concerned about his attendance record. He, at his age, has to learn about responsibility and commitment. Even if it kills him. Some lessons are hard learned.

Get a couple of plastic baggies and stuff them with ice. Then shove them in his front pockets. That should keep his temperature down for a couple of hours. Then let the school nurse worry about it.

Then tell him to "man up". Quit whining.

I bet your thermometer is on celsius!
As for the puking I'm sure its school food.
Tell him to quit whining and send him to school!

GET HIM TO AN ER QUICK.
Even if all is fine then at least you DID something besides asking strangers what to do. A computer can't diagnose a child, get off yours and do something about your SON! Oh and get a new Doctor, one that can see him the same day.

The symptom that you describe is link to many kind off illness.
so to get an right answer you have to take him to a Dr.

This is what you need to do. Don't give him any medication until about an hour before school. You don't want it to be wearing off in the middle of the day and him getting sent home early. You want to give him ibuprofen, but don't give him the recommended amount, give him three times that. I know with adults the prescription strength is about three times the recommended OTC dose so I am sure it's the same for kids. Also don't feed him anything, if there is nothing on his stomach, he won't have anything to puke up.

Same thing with my son. He has had a fever for 2 and a half days and has been throwing up but only when he cries. I think he is a little conjested in his chest and he chokes onhis own flem causing him to puke. We have been giving him soup and liquids. He seems a lot better today. I think it is a bug.
