Does alcohol cause anxiety???!
Question: I have had a panic attack which scared the life out of me. But then i started getting anxiety which i read up about and i think i have gerd. sometimes i cant sleep all night because i am convinced my heart is going to stop. I am only 21 HELP!

Alcohol does not cause anxiety per say but can mimic or intensify anxiety like symptoms. After you drink you go thru withdrawal(everyone does not just alcoholics). This includes symptoms like shakiness and increased heart rate....sound familiar...these are the same symptoms you feel when you are anxious. Alcohol can help "steady" the nerves in the short term but actually makes it worse in the long run. Best advice is to limit alcohol to safe limits.
Reading you questions just made me realize I might have a problem because I too, can't sleep sometimes because I get paranoid that my heart is going to stop while Im in my sleep and that I might have a stroke and I get so paranoid I am afraid to fall asleep and my boyfirend just thinks i'm weird but I'm dead serious when I think this stuff. im 24
