Wives tale! Hot beverages help to break up the mucous and move it along. The sodium acts as a cleanser or antiseptic. Hot tea, probably wont help. Give him a glass of O.J. and tell him you'll rub his back he may just give in and drink a cold beverage that might actually help him get over the bug. Have you tried chicken noodle soup what about theraflu. Men are funny about being macho!

Give him some Vitamin water. It's cold and manly!!

Go get some eucalyptus oil from the chemist and put a ccapfull of it into a warm bathtub at nighttime before going to bed and soak luxuriously for 15 - 20 minutes ............. this will do a great job of loosening any congestion in his chest and releasing mucuous build up. A eucalyptus oil bath will also ease the pains of sore and achy muscles.

Basically, you need to focus on bolstering his immune system.Try to to focus on a well balanced diet. Focus on eating more fresh fruits and vegies, lean meats and fishes, wholegrains and cereals and ground nuts and seeds and plenty of fresh filtered water?

Here's just a few good old fashioned common sense things that you can do to build up his immunity. Go get a powdered form of ascorbid acid (vitamin C) with bioflavonoids from either the health food store or chemist. The bioflavonoids will increase the effectiveness of vitamin C 10 fold. Have 3,000 - 4,000mg (3 - 4 teaspoons) daily mixed with water until the cold subsides then maintain your immunity with 1 teaspoon daily ~ if he's going to be daft and not build his body up then you protect yourself by taking some daily. Actually, take it anyways ?

Most health food stores also sell a product called Zinc Fix which combines the power of vitamin C with Zinc in a powdered form. The Zinc bolsters the effects of vitamin C and this is my powder of choice for a cold or sore throat ~ sooooo, if he won't drink this either then i'd suggest you do to protect your immune system ?

Actually, a brilliant way to ease the pain of a sore throat is to cut a lime or lemon into quarters and squeeze the juice of a 1/4 into a cup of hot water, sweeten to taste with honey (honey has antibiotic properties) and sip on that......... then, suck on the remainder of the lime and that lovely tangy lime juice !! Go on, tell him to be a big boy, be brave and just eat the lime ~~ minus the skin of course ? i just love the taste of lemons and limes and lucky for me as it knocked my nasty cold on the head a couple of weeks ago and gave me relief from a terribly sore throat. the vitamin C is so rich in lemons and limes that you will usually get some sort of immediate relief from even the nastiest sore throat and barkingest (haha is that a word!!) cough ?

Drink vitamin C rich rosehips tea as this is the richest known source of vitamin C. (the organic loose leaf variety - it may be a bit more expensive but as it is organic you can generally reuse the spent leaves a couple of times as the essential oils are so potent)..... hmmmmm, maybe that's too girly for him, so you drink it. oh, it will make your skin glow with health too?

Increase your intake of vitamin C rich foods on a dialy basis to prevent any further infection and to reduce the amount of time he is sick...... ie: citrus fruits, berries, leafy and green vegies, tomatoes and red and green peppers.

Loads of freshly squeezed juices are good too.

Ensure he is drinking plenty of pure filtered water to flush the germies out of his body .......... and keep him well hydrated ....... avoid sugar as it will create a feeding ground for bacteria ~ virus, and also avoid caffeine containing beverages such as coffee, tea, soda and soft drinks, as these will only serve to dehydrate you and rob your body of essential B & C vitamins.

Ensure you drinking or eating something with Beta - carotene in it daily to heal quicker and in future to prevent further colds, as Vitamin A will aid in the proper function of the immune system, shorten the duration of illnesses and generally bolster the health of the mucosal lining of your ear nose and throat ie: carrott juice, pumpkin soups.

Take a good quality multi B complex supplement on a daily basis both now while he is sick and for future prevention methods ~ you too, so that your immune system is bolstered also. The B complex of vitamins is essential for healthy immune, digestive and neural functioning and will help your body deal with the extra stress of being ill as well as protecting you from getting ill ?

Things such as caffeine, sodas and soft drinks, antidepressants, antibiotics, diuretics, laxatives and aspirin and most otc cold medicines and alcohol will also do a great job of robbing you of your precious B vitamins.

Also, a good vapour inhalant when you have a cold is to put a couple of drops of eucalyptus oil into a salad bowl of hot water and .......... being carefull not to get so close as to burn your face ......... place a towel over your head and inhale the vapours. This will do a great job of clearing his sinuses, help in reducing any temperature he may have and to loosen and remove mucous.

?Caution: Avoid using eucalyptus oil if you have high blood pressure or suffer from epilepsy ~ if either is the case simpy substitue for Tea Tree oil ~ both of which are very powerfull antiseptic and antibacterial oils?

Get some fresh air into the house during the day for a couple of hours ........... open your bedroom window and say the lounge room window to ventilate and freshen the air.

Eucalyptus oil has long been respected for its ability to lower temperature and help the respiratory ract by loosening and removing mucus during attacks of bronchitis, coughs, influenza, sinusitis and throat infections. Its antiviral and antibacterial action will deter further growth of the bacteria or virus too. At the same time it will also have the effect of giving some protection to other members of the family.

Soooooo, put a capfull of eucalyptus oil into a spray bottle of warm water, shake vigourously before using and spray door knobs and kitchen, bathroom, bedroom surfaces in an attempt to torch those nasty cold and flu germs ............ naturally, if you are going to do this with the toilet (including doors and handles) i suggest you use a different sponge?

Good luck & health & vitality to you & yours?
