Hi there have looked this up in my meds book.
Amitriptyline,

Used for hyper tension, depresion, sleep disorders,

Side affects,
constipation, dry mouth, nausea, blured vision,

If your doctor has percribed this to you then take it it is a very low dosage so should not disturbe your work life.
If this helps you sleep then great , If not after 2 weeks how long you should give it time to work go back to your doctor.
Hope this helps.
:-) xx

look into milder natural sleep aids...valerian root powder (from your local health food shop) is a good start....steer well clear of preciption meds, matey

Ive been on it due to an accident I damaged my right foot and it has been OK for me as before I couldn't get to sleep due to the pain.

It does make you tired at first so you need to take it at least 1 to 2 hrs before bed and it can still make you feel a bit tired in the morning the first week until your body gets used to it.

Try not to take this too long as it is very addictive and terrible to come of after taking it for any length of time. Try going to Holland & Barrett and getting a natural alternative. There is now research coming out that some anti-depressants can cause one to feel suicidal. Amitryptaline has not been mentioned I may add but you never know.

Amitriptyline is a tri-cyclic antidepressant. Serotonin reuptake inhibitors are the ones associated with suicidal thoughts, not TCAs. Amitriptyline is majorly associated with weight gain. Daytime sleepiness isn't usually a problem, but if you do experience it you do get tolerant to the sedative effect after a bit. Also, if you have children, be VERY careful with the bottle. A toddler (22-25lbs) can die from eating just 7 of those 10mg tablets.
