Question about auxiliary lymph nodes?!

Question: I had an ultrasound. During it the tech examined lymph nodes under right arm. There is swelling there and it feels like two are connected. The ustrasound came back o.k.. My doctor wants me to be seen by a breast surgeon. Does anyone know what the point would be. It probally is from an old injury I had 6 yrs. ago. Thank you!

Do you mean axillary lymph nodes?

The reason that you would be sent to a breast surgeon (which is quite common for lymph nodes in the arm pit/breast area to be sent to a breast surgeon for further exam) is because #1 they most likely need to be removed because although the U/S came back ok, they can still be precancerous or just need to be removed. #2 biopsy. U/S may come back ok. Mammogram may come back ok. However, if it is early stage a cancer would not be fully seen on either test. Better be safe then sorry. I would also state that an injury can activate a cancer.

i went to a surgeon to have a biopsy, did they not mention getting a biopsy? hope everything will be OK. just do me one favor don't go a lone. i did and it was the worst experience i had ever had. good luck! god bless!

I can help you tomorrow after I get a biopsy done on a bump on my neck. Normally I wouldn't be worried, but it is right next to where I had surgery from melanoma cancer.

There are a few reasons your doctor is referring you to a breast surgeon. First he or she is being cautious and wants you to have an expert opinion. Second, sometimes breast cancer can occur at the axillary tail, which may be the area you are describing. Third, some doctors recommend removing some benign tumors as the patient could get used to it being there and possibly miss breast changes later on. Forth, if they cannot tell on radiology alone what it is they should do a biopsy to be sure it is not cancer.
