Does a high INR (6) effect SpO2 rate?!

Question: Diabetic dad is in a rehab. center to rebuild strength from pnuemonia. His sugar levels and INR seem to go all over the place. His INR was 1.3 so doctor put him on 7mg. coumadin a day. He was alternating 5, 7.5 , 5 etc. Now his INR is 6 so the doctor took him offf coumadin. Will thinner blood effect his SpO2 during physical therapy?

No. The INR will not affect his SpO2. Most likely the exertion from physical therapy places an increase demand on his system that his lungs just can't quite keep up with. Obviously if you are aware of it, so are the medical professionals and they are taking appropriate measures in that regard.

The INR is only affected by his coumadin intake. Getting the right dose of coumadin is difficult and requires diligent oversight. There is a delicate balance between the therapeutic level (the one in which he is protected from clots) and overdose. It appears that his physicians are taking the necessary steps (frequent blood tests) to get his level in balance.

Good luck

With Diabetes, an acute ( short-term illness/infection) will throw off his sugar levels ( normal with Diabetes). As far as the Coumadin levels, it can take time to get the INR level in a therapeutic range ( quite normal). If his O2 Saturation ( oxygen saturation=SpO2) levels are off, it is more than likely due to the pneumonia that he has plus, any over-exertion places more of a demand on his lung capacity. His INR level will NOT affect his oxygen saturation level. If his oxygen levels are low, I am hopeful that he is receiving supplemental oxygen.
The Doc is trying to adjust his Coumadin level and is handling it appropriately.
I hope that this is helpful and that your Dad feels well soon.
