Well, let's put it this way, if you ever want to freak your doctor out, on the way to getting your blood drawn, eat a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich for breakfast.

So yes; your results were probably artificially skewed by what you ate before the blood draw. Tell your doctor this and have the test redone the next time you're in his or her office.

That said, it should be noted that certain medications (for example, anticonvulsants like tegretol and phenobarbital), mundane and common food items (like coffee), or even stress, can raise serum cholesterol. Speak with your doctor about what can affect the results beforehand. In this way you can avoid them and get an accurate measurement.

Good luck.

Yes when having your cholestrol checked it should be fasting depending on your doctor it should be 12 or 14 hour fasting blood work. I would have it retested and fast for it. That is awful high for a yound girl. You may not eat fatty foods but you need to check the poly, saturated fats also.

Yes, it makes a difference. Do it again in the morning on a completely empty stomach.

Typically they'll advise you to fast for 8 - 12 hrs prior to the blood test. Eating anything right before can cause a change in your blood sugar related to that meal and give an incorrect result.

Yes, they do tell you to fast for 12 hours before having a cholesterol test as even a piece of chewing gum can alter the numbers.
