Dermatological question. PLEASE help.?!
Question: I have recently been prescribed Tazorac for my acne. I am also taking Minocycline for acute(?) acne.
Tazorac is actually a psoriasis gel but can be used for acne. I don't think much is known about its acne uses. I have tried Retin-A a long time ago and like Retin-A, Tazorac seems to BRING OUT spots and bumps and more acne to start. Maybe the gel will start to clear up my face later. I dont know. But I DO need to know if Tazorac will actually work! Am I wasting my time? Will it damage my skin or cause any farther problems? My dermatologist did NOT explain any of this to me and I was disappointed with her. (Im a new patient of hers and I assume she doesnt give a fiddler's fart about my actual problem....long story!!) But if Tazorac IS helpful and if the Minocycline CAN help-PLEASE let me know. By the way I have also tried Doxicycline but I didnt take it very long B4 the dermatologist prescribed Minocycline. MINOcycline is supposed to be stronger. ......ANY info is SO appreciated.

Tazorac does actually work, but the first four to six weeks are HELL!!! Stick with it, and it will be worth it. But your breakouts will get worse before they get better, because the Tazorac increases the turnover rate of your skin. All the stuff hiding under your epidermis is showing up all at once.
Your skin might peel like a bad sunburn for the first week as well. Mine did, it hurt like crazy in the wind. I've been using Tazorac for about six weeks now, and my skin is just now starting to look vastly better. I'd say it's worth it in the long run if you feel like your acne is severe enough.
