Imaginary diseases....?!

Question: Lots of imaginary diseases have been invented by drug companies.... who just - oops - - HAPPEN to have a drug to "fix" the new disease as soon as the disease is "discovered". (Imagine the coincidence!!)

For hundreds of years, people knew that if you were around a lot of dust, etc you would sneeze. It's your body's natural way of dealing with it. NOW we have "allergies" and there's a Claritin commercial with a guy grinding away on a hunk of stone (making a statue) with clouds of dust flying everywhere. How about wear a cheap disposable dust mask, rather than doping up on Claritin?

Generations of old men have accepted that their sex lives would slow down when they turned 80. Now if Grandpa's not sprouting wood like a 14-year old boy in a whorehouse, we create a disease called "erectile dysfunction" and pump him full of Viagra.

Misbehaving kids used to get a swat on the behind and eventually matured/behaved. Now we just prescribe Ritalin.

Where does it end ?

I don't think it will end, unfortunately. I know people who run to the doctor every time they sneeze. Myself, I believe you don't need to take anything unless your dying or close to it.

Way back when, people used edible plants to cure all. It was right from the ground. Not processed into a gel-cap.

I don't even take vitamins, if you eat properly, you'll get all the nutrition you need.

My mom has many lung problems (not caused by smoking). For her, she took many prescriptions, but she got sick of it. She stopped taking them, except her asthma meds. If she would move to a less-polluted area, maybe she wouldn't have to. But she feels fine without popping pills that aren't necessary.

We do live in a society that would rather put a band aid on things rather than address the real problem to fix it indefinitely.

Although this is a rant more than a question, I agree with you. It's sad that people can get a pill for everything and anything. And it won't end, as long as this country doesn't have universal health care. The drug companies will continue to invent new "problems" and "cures" to keep the money flowing.
