Can saltpetre really have nitrate that cause cancer?!

Question: Just tiny bit curious, just as the topics said... well... perhaps for short... "Can saltpetre really cause cancer?"

Yup. Saltpetre IS a nitrate; it's found in pickles, explosives, fertilizer. Yummy, eh? Also in coldcuts, lunchmeat, hotdogs...still hungry? [At one time it was given to prison inmates because it was supposed to be an uh...hm...anti-aphrodesiac. per several old folks that I once knew.] Persons with cancer who are using nutrition as part of their anti-cancer treatment are not supposed to eat any processed meat/food that contains it. I guess that tells you something....of course it's labeled now as nitrate, nitrite not as saltpetre.
