I used to work in health care and had to give injections to my patients. So I've been on both sides of the syringe, and I understand.

First, a needle on your birthday will NOT ruin your birthday. I promise! In fact, people might sympathize with you and be extra nice to you!

Second, in most cases, it's the ANTICIPATION of getting the needle that causes more stress than the actual needle itself! We can really work ourselves up about how bad it is until our fears are completely out of proportion to the actual injection! Worrying about it will accomplish nothing. Try REAL HARD not to worry about it - make it a habit to think about something else when you are tempted to worry. You can even joke about how you feel with family or friends - ask them if they will give you a lollipop for your troubles! A sense of humor is great medicine!

I'm not going to lie to you and say you won't feel anything. But the feeling is almost always quick, temporary, and doesn't last long. And then it's all over - you won't need another one for a long time!

Here's my best advice: don't hesitate to tell the person giving you the shot that you are afraid. He or she has probably seen many people with fears just like you, and can take some extra steps to comfort you. For example, many people have an easier time when they lie down instead of sit up, so ask if you can do this. Some people liked to talk to me as I was getting ready, and this distracted them from the fear. Make an effort to breathe normally - shallow, quick breathing will make you more tense. Bring a stuffed animal with you, or some chocolate for a promised reward when you get through this!

I hope it goes well for you, and hope my advice helped. Please don't worry. And please come back and tell us all how it went!

get over it its not the end of the world its just about two minutes of your life

when they give it to you, pretend your blowing on a cake, or hold someones hand!!!

RUN AWAYY!!!!!

It doesn't hurt its like one hit and your done, your 15 for pete sakes; get a grip your not 5years old anymore!

a little needle? HA!
Yesterday was my birthday
My dog died yesterday
I spent 3 hours digging a hole to bury him in

be glad your only getting a needle

Crying-mommy-??? Your 15! What?

Bring some ice and hold the ice where the shot is going to be given. That way you hardly feel it when it goes in. The people that pierce ears do that to make it less painful.

Your mummy is right. You need to get your immunizations. The diseases they will protect you from are nasty, awful sicknesses that could scar you, take away your ability to walk, or even turn you into a vegetable.

Be strong, don't look, and it will be over in a snap.

TX Mom

Be afraid but do it anyway. You have yourself in a terrible state of fear and anxiety over something that is very important to your long-term health. Yes, it will hurt a bit but not half as badly as you think it will. Try to remain calm and not worry yourself too much. It will be over before you know it.
