Can someone relate to me?!

Question: I am 15 and I have been diagnosed with Overian cancer. The type I have is only one of fourteen documented cases. I still am at school because I hate staying home with my parents. All they ever do is complain about money. For example, at one point the doctors though I would not need chemo and my mother said "Oh, honey I am so glad, I mean do you know how much that would have cost?". How about I am glad you do not have to go to school with no hair and run to the restroom every half-hour to throw up! Well anyways they changed their mind and I started chemo 2 weeks ago. I assue my hair will fall out soon and I have a wig but I wonder what it will be like to tell the kids at school. I do not want their sympathy. Can anyone tell me what you do. Also no offense but I am not talking to the parents who had kids with cancer. I mean I know that is though, but it is NOT the same as having it. Thanks

I'm sorry to hear you have cancer.
While I'm certainly no longer a teenager I do work in the schools and when I went to work after I lost my hair (I preferred a scarf instead of a wig) I noticed that the kids didn't look at me any different. I'm guessing that most of them knew what my new style meant.
I have found that it is easier to be very open about having cancer than to try and hide it. Understand that when you tell the kids at school that you will get sympathy from some of them at first. But if you have an upbeat attitude most of them will take their cue from you and treat you normally. If you act like having cancer is no big deal then so will they.
As far as your parents being jerks about the money. It may be their way of dealing with the stress. They may be concentrating in the money as a way of avoiding the seriousness of the situation. At least I hope that is the case. Either way try and ignore the bad stuff and concentrate on getting better.

Hugs and good luck.

Dear Child, what the H--- is our workd coming to, Are your parents crazy does your life not mean anything to them.

Anyways I would just be nice to the kids at school and tell them that you appreciate their concerns but you would like to not be treated differently. Why did your Dr just to surgery and take the ovaries out or did they?

thats sad i havent had cancer but i went through a scare where i new it would be a chance of having cervical cancer. i cant imagine how u feel specially since ur parents dont seem to show much affection. it may be hard to see but they do love u they probably dont know how to react ot this situation. be strong and pray the lord will help u through this. the saying goes whatever dont kill you only makes u stronger so keep ur head up and have faith . Dont give up u still have a long life ahead of u ull make it through
