No, you won't catch a cold from being out in the cold, BUT, being out in the cold takes energy which your body gets any way it can. So, it takes the energy that it could be using for your immune system. In other words being out in the cold is taxing on your body and may lower your immune system to the point of allowing cold germs to enter and take hold. If, you happen to come into contact with a person who is carrying cold germs

you get a cold from the cold virus. being in that cold of weather can make you more susceptible to catching that virus.

Chilling the body hinders your immunity so that you can't kill the germs in your body, so the germs that you normally control suddenly become pathogens and make you sick, because your immunity is suppressed by you being cold.

The reason you can get a cold in cold weather is because you're immune system is using extra energy to keep itself warm. When this happens it creates a way for "opportunistic infections" or a cold. You can't get a cold from the cold....when you fight to stay warm you lower you're immune system. But hey you also can burn calories too! (just an add on)
EDIT*** [Natalie] the cold virus associated with cold weather is a misconception. If you are in the cold you are not more vulnerable to the virus as the cold virus hits during spring time also. So I'm sorry but you're information is not correct.

AMY-unfortunately if that was the case we wouldn't get sick in the spring time also. But we do....meaning you can get just as sick sitting in you're house as you do going out and enjoying a nice spring day. When you are more active it allows you're immune system to build. I think windows help freshen the house but its not the cause. Its a wives tale.

You can not catch a cold from the cold weather. Cold comes from Germs. The reason why more people get colds in cold weather is that we all stay inside. We don't open our windows/air out our homes, offices etc, so the germs stay trapped inside. In warmer weather we go out more, open windows etc so the germs aren't trapped in as much!
